Henrik (49 years old) lives a stressful life with long working hours, large responsibility and shifting work locations. The pain in his upper stomach has been treated with PPI for a year without a full relief. Henrik is realistic and knows that a change of lifestyle may be required to get rid of the symptoms, but he loves his job and the pulse of it. If only the medication could help him a bit more?
He also suffers from recurring diarrhea and bloated stomach. These days, he is visiting the toilet 8-10 times per day. A medical check-up has not shown any serious disease in the gut system.
Lately, his wife asked him to go see his doctor to find a better medical treatment.

Proton Pump Inhibitors
A recent danish register study mapped the use of drugs in Denmark for drugs having actionable dosing guidelines i.e., dosing recommendations different from standard dosing for CYP2D6 or CYP2C19. Data in the figure are given in Defined Daily Dose (DDD) i.e., the assumed average maintenance dose per day for a drug used for its main indication in adults and number of users (2017 data).
Fifty-eight percent of the consumption in DDD of drugs having actionable guidelines was within the ATC codes of A02BC (proton pump inhibitors) (data given in the figure), B01AC (platelet aggregation inhibitors excluding heparing – clopidogrel) and C07AB (beta blocking agents – metoprolol) (Westergaard et al. 2020. Drug Use in Denmark for Drugs Having Pharmacogenomics (PGx) Based Dosing Guidelines from CPIC or DPWG for CYP2D6 and CYP2C19 Drug-Gene Pairs: Perspectives for Introducing PGx test to Polypharmacy Patients. J. Pers. Med. 2020, 10, 3; doi:10.3390/jpm10010003)
Four simple and easy steps

We are all different
The practice of medicine has always been about treating each person as an individual patient. For a long time, clinicians have observed that patients with the same diagnosis may respond differently to the same medical treatment.
Advances in technology have made it possible to identify genetic variations determining the effectiveness of commonly prescribed medications.
Personal Medicine Profile relies on this very technology.
